Poaching / illegal Fishing at Longlands Lake
Issued 27 May 2026
WE DID
The Wath Brow and Ennerdale Anglers Society reached out to The Rural Crime Team in regards to poaching that took place at Longlands Lake in 2025. As the new fishing season approached and they were preparing to restock the lake they were looking for advice on how to reduce this.
We had a meeting on 23rd March at the Lake with the committee to discuss and provide Crime Prevention advice. Our main concern was the lack of signage that is in the area that provides information to the public regarding permits and how to purchase them.
With the assistance of The Rural Crime Team we have provided them with signs on 21st April for them to display in and around the area. Our main objective is to help educate people as well as deter them
We have also been conducting high visibility patrols of the Lake to assist with this
