The Suzy Lamplugh Trust submitted a super-complaint regarding the national police response to stalking on behalf of the National Stalking Consortium in November 2022.
A super-complaint is a complaint that “a feature, or combination of features, of policing in England and Wales by one, or more than one, police force is, or appears to be, significantly harming the interests of the public” (Section 29A, Police Reform Act 2002).
The police super-complaints system is designed to examine problems of local, regional or national significance that may not be addressed by other elements of the police complaints system.
All forces have been instructed to publish on their force website an action plan that explains what their force will do in response to each of the recommendations made to them.
Cumbria Constabulary’s action plan can be viewed here.
Stalking and harassment is taken extremely seriously by Cumbria Constabulary. It is an offence that causes significant harm to victims and their families.
Our officers do everything they can to help support victims whilst taking positive action against any offender.
Police in Cumbria will continue to work hard and do everything they can to bring those responsible to justice.
If you are a victim of stalking or concerned about someone, contact police on our non-emergency online form or call 101. In an emergency always call 999.
