Auto-Attendant currently handles 101 calls as follows:

When a call is made on 101, the Cumbria Constabulary Auto-Attendant activates once the caller has been put through from the automated national 101 system.

The caller will be greeted, warned to phone 999 in an emergency and then the caller is given four options to choose from.

To report a crime or incident Press 1

1. Importantly, the first option is for the caller to report an incident and speak to a Call Handler in person.

If you know the 5 digit extension number Press 2

2. Option 2 enables the caller to contact an extension number directly. If no-one answers after a set time the call will get routed to the call handlers.

For lost or found property enquiries Press 3

3. Cumbria constabulary no longer take reports of Lost property or provides reference numbers for property insurance claims.

If you have found an item of property then your legal obligation is to try and reunite it with the owner. For further information and full details of this change you can visit: or you can pick up a leaflet at your local police station.

For enquiries in Eden and North Cumbria including Carlisle, Brampton and Penrith Press 1
For South Cumbria or Central Lakes including Barrow, Ulverston, Kendal and Windermere Press 2.
For Allerdale, Copeland or North Lakes including Whitehaven, Workington, Cockermouth, Keswick and Wigton Press 3.

For Custody, press 4

4. Option 4 gives the caller the opportunity to speak to one of the four designated custody suites in the county. These suites are staffed 24/7 and they will have answer phones so that when the custody suite is busy a message will start, inviting the caller to phone back later when the custody suite is less busy.
