Youth ASB in the Town centre

    Issued 14 October 2024

    Action taken:

This has been an ongoing issue for a number of months. We have conducted numerous High visibility patrols in the area. Ulverston Town Centre has been created as a hot spot for the government funded Operation Enhance which sees police officers conducting visible foot patrol on a regular though randomised basis for the next few months. Since we have targeted this area we have identified a number of youths involved, made arrests and taken several young people to court. Most recently we obtained an Anti-social behaviour order against one young person until January 2025 and another young person is currently detained in secure accommodation. We have done inputs into local schools around responsible behaviour and we continue to work with a number of agencies to provide outreach work and look for ways to keep young people out of crime as well as continuing to maintain a firm stance against ASB and offending. Of the young people identified as causing the town the most issue in 2023 75% are no longer offending, and the behaviour of the others has mostly reduced and continues to be addressed.

    Speeding - Newbiggin

    Issued 14 October 2024

    Action taken:

Speed Indicator device to be placed to gauge levels of speed on the road.

The Speed Indicator Device was placed onto the A5087 and the 85th percentile found to be 35.75 in a 40mph limit therefore does not require any targeted action. NPT will continue to monitor

Road Safety – Speeding in Croftlands near the school

    Issued 13 January 2025

    Action taken:

We have gathered data and found that a small number of people have slightly exceeded the 30 mph speed limit. We have returned to the area twice in December with the laser and 60 vehicles were speed checked. No one was caught speeding on those days. Outside the school there are amber flashing lights in operation during drop off and pick up times. When those lights are in operation it is advised that for the safety of the children, that vehicles should not exceed 20 mph. We have checked with Highways and this is only advisory in this location which means we were unable to issue tickets but we have sent letters to the registered keepers of any of the vehicles we caught travelling over 20mph outside the schools at those times. We will continue to conduct random checks in this location.

    Actioned 13 January 2025
