    Road Safety

    Issued 24 October 2024

    Action taken:

PC Dixon has linked in with local residents regards a parking issue close to Askam level crossing following concern of vehicles parking on a blind corner. This issue is now resolved and there have been no further incidents reported.
PS Dilks and PC Dixon attended Askam Village School and agreed a joint approach with school staff following concerns raised over irresponsible parking at drop-off and pick-up times.
We've done high visibility patrols at relevant times, and issued a letter to all parents over their responsibilities when parking near the school, and we are pleased to report this matter appears resolved.

We have done significant work around road safety in Askam. This has included utilisation of the Speed Indication Device (SID) at specific locations, use of speed gun at specific locations, and school visits around road safety.

In Dalton we have conducted similar road safety work, primarily speed gun operations, and additionally we had Mr Allen, the PFCC, hold a surgery in Dalton Co-op, which we also utilised as a Police Desk.

On the 3rd April 2025 PS Holmes & PC Herron have conducted further speed enforcement actions on Long Lane in Dalton and Ireleth Road in Askam, 4 drivers were reported for speeding on Long Lane, there was full compliance with the speed limit in Askam. Further patrols will be conducted in future.

10/04/2025- A speed indication device has been installed on Long Lane to monitor driving speeds over the course of a week, the data will subsequently be analysed and 85th percentile reading of speed will determine further actions in this location.
May 2025- The deployment of the SID on Long Lane & Newton Road has indicated times of the day where drivers travelling at excess speed are using the road network- we are aiming to target these periods of time utilising enforcement tactics- at present there is roadworks in the area changing the normal pattern and speed of traffic due to the obstructions and traffic lights- we will aim to be present once normal traffic flow resumes.

    Actioned 15 May 2025
