Carlisle West Priorities

  • "You said" Fires on the Raffles Estate
Issue was set on Monday, April 10
    • We did:" During April 2017 Police listened to complaints from residents in relation a number of wheelie bin and minor rubbish fires on Raffles Estate. Officers targeted the affected areas and caught six local youths in the vicinity of the fires. The majority had no previous criminal convictions and were eligible for a community resolution. We used a multi agency approach to the issue and the youths involved attended the City West Fire and rescue station where they took part in mediation work. This included the consequences of starting fires and the subsequent knock on affects when the fire service are called out to deal with minor fires. PCSO Mark Nevison and PCSO Rochelle Jackson also attended and gave an input of the consequences of a criminal record. Riverside were also informed and issued warning notices to the youths parents who live in a Riverside property. Officers have also made contact with Riverside who arranged for a skips to be placed for residents to dispose of rubbish. Police have also been successful in an application for funding from the Crime and Police Commissioner’s property fund. The monies were to assist in the setting up of new youth provision at Cumbria Reach building on Shadygrove.

Regular patrols were carried out in the area, any youths who were in the area and were seen to be causing anti-social behaviour had their details taken and their parents were informed. On one occasion dispersal's powers were used and a number of youths were removed from the area and taken home. Don't forget our Police desk every 2nd Wednesday each month at the Co-op.
