DC Sarah Penman
I joined Cumbria constabulary 3 years ago as a police constable after I graduated in criminology and sociology at university and returned from my travels.
I knew I wanted to work within the police service because I wanted a fulfilling career which gave me a purpose. I spent 2 and a half years in uniform as a response officer on the front line and found it to be an extremely rewarding experience. Within the last year I made the decision to join the Crime and Safeguarding team in order to become a detective. I knew I wanted to be a detective and I wanted to challenge myself and demonstrate my skills towards more serious and complex cases. I am excited to be a part of such cases and have that pressure and responsibility to see the case through to the end.
Although I am new to the role I'm incredibly supported and work within a great team. My favourite part of the role is making a genuine and positive impact on people lives and getting that positive result for the victim.
The role it is demanding, pressurised and unpredictable but no two days are the same and every day is a school day because you are constantly learning, no matter how experienced you are.
I feel really lucky to enjoy my job and don't think I could find another career that is quite as fulfilling.
