Cumbria Police have charged a man with wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article in a public place after a man was stabbed in Alston on Saturday evening (11 Sept).
 
Cumbria Police were called shortly after 8.20pm to a report that a man had been stabbed in the abdomen outside the Victoria Inn in Alston.
 
The victim, a man in his 30s from Alston, was taken to Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. He remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.
 
Cumbria Police arrested two men following the incident – a 20-year-old man and a 38-year-old man, both from Alston.
 
The 38-year-old man has been released under investigation whilst officers continue with their enquiries. 
 
Saul Shepherd, 20, of Alston, was charged with wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article. He appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court this morning (13th September) and has been remanded to appear at Crown Court on 12th October.
