Police were called at 8:50pm yesterday (June 9) to the report of a five vehicle collision on the A5086 near to Paddle School cross roads.

The collision involved three vehicles a Ford Focus, Volkswagen Polo and Mercedes and two motorcycles.

A motorcyclist aged 53 from Norwich was taken by air ambulance to the Royal Victoria infirmary with life threatening injuries.

Another motorcyclist aged 56 from Norwich was taken to Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle sustained serious injuries.

The driver of the Ford a man in his 20s from Maryport, the driver of the Volkswagen a woman in her 40s from Cockermouth and the driver of the Mercedes a woman in her 20s  from Workington were uninjured.

Officers investigating the collision are appealing for witnesses to contact them with any information they may have in relation to the collision.
