A 20-year-old man from Carlisle, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The arrest follows a call to police at 3:17am, yesterday (19th April), reporting an assault involving two men on Dalston Road, Carlisle.

A 43-year-old man, who is not from Cumbria, was taken to Royal Victoria Infirmary with serious injuries from a bladed article.  He is in a stable condition with injuries not believed to be life-changing.

The 20-year old man remains in police custody.
