People across West Cumbria are being given the chance to recognise those who have made a real difference in their local communities as nominations open for this year’s Community Respect Awards.
The Awards, organized by the West Cumbria Community Safety Partnership (formerly CDRP), honour the outstanding work that goes across the area to tackling crime and disorder. They highlight the hard work and courage that it takes to make a difference and are a chance to celebrate the best of the West Cumbrian community and its people.
Organisers are now on the hunt for local people who have made an outstanding contribution to tackling crime and disorder in their area and are urging anyone who knows someone who fits the bill to get in touch.
Chair of West Cumbria Community safety Partnership Councillor Norman Williams said: “In previous years the standard of entries at the Community Respect Awards has been very high; The Community Safety Partnership, formally known as the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, is confident that this year’s entries will be equally as good.
“Every year I am heartened to see that more and more members of the public are working with the Community Safety Partnership to take action and stand up for the rights of the law-abiding majority; and we feel that these awards are a fitting way to recognise those extraordinary people.”
Superintendent Andy Towler, second in command of Policing in West Cumbria, said: “These awards represent the best of what the community, agencies and individuals are doing to reduce crime and protect people.
“Since the last awards we have dealt with a devastating flood, a tragic bus crash and the shooting of twelve innocent victims. The value and character of people who live and work in West Cumbria has been tested to the full. Despite all this we continue to dramatically reduce crime and incidents of disorder and should celebrate this success accordingly."
The categories for this year’s event are as follows:
• Taking A Stand
