Police release CCTV to trace witnesses to Kendal fire

Detectives investigating a fire at the Conservative Party Offices in Kendal have today released CCTV footage in a bid to identify further witnesses.

Police launched an investigation after receiving reports of a fire at the offices on Highgate during the early hours of Friday 19 February. In an effort to enhance their investigation and identify further witnesses to the incident, officers today released CCTV footage of three people seen in on Highgate the morning that the fire started.

Detective Inspector Dave Banks from South Cumbria CID said: "We are releasing these CCTV pictures to try and identify witnesses to this serious incident. The building was seriously damaged and we are fortunate that noone was injured or even killed.

"I would like to appeal to the three people captured in the CCTV to contact detectives in Kendal CID. I'd like to stress that we are not treating them as suspects but believe they may have information that could help our investigation and identify those responsible.

"This investigation is still in its early stages with various lines of enquiry underway. I urge anyone with information about this offence to get in touch with me or any member of the investigation team at Kendal CID office. I hope that the local community continue to come forward to help us - we need to find out who is responsible and stop them striking again."

This fresh appeal for new witnesses follows the Conservative Association last week offering a £1000 reward to anyone who comes forward with information that leads to the successful arrest and subsequent conviction of those responsible.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Kendal CID on 0845 33 00 247  or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
