A police investigation has been launched after a man died in a collision near Brampton yesterday.
At around 12pm on Wednesday 8 September police attended a collision between a Suzuki SV 1000 motorcycle and a Volvo Tipper on the A689 at Silvertop, near Hallbankgate. Sadly the rider of the motorcycle died at the scene. The pillion passenger, a 32-year-old woman from Carlisle, was taken to Newcastle General Hospital by air ambulance where she remains this morning in a serious but stable condition.
The 24-year-old driver of the White Volvo Tipper was uninjured. He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been bailed to return to Carlisle Police Station on 11 October while the investigation continues. The road was closed whilst emergency services dealt with the incident and carried out their enquiries at the scene. Police would like to thank members of the public for their patience and co-operation.
An investigation has been launched into the incident by officers from North Cumbria Roads Policing Unit. As part of this officers are also working to formally identify the motorcycle rider and inform immediate family.
