An investigation has been launched and one man has been arrested after the death of a man on Aberdeen Street in Barrow last night (Sunday, 27 June). Police were called to the area at 10:20pm after reports that a man, believed to be in his thirties from the Barrow area, had been found unconscious on the street at the junction with Anchor Road. Ambulance crews and police attended within minutes and the man was immediately taken to Furness General Hospital where, despite the best efforts of medical staff, he later died.

A 39-year-old Barrow man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is being held at Barrow Police Station where he will be interviewed by investigating officers today.
Officers are also currently working to formally identify the man who died, a Family Liaison Officer is supporting his immediate family, and a post mortem is due to be held later today. Detectives are investigating reports that the man may have been involved in a fight with another man on Aberdeen Street shortly before his death so officers are appealing to anyone who was in the area, who may have seen or heard anything which could help police, to get in touch by calling Barrow CID on 0845 33 00 247, or alternatively report information anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
