A Barrow teenager has been sentenced to three years and eight months imprisonment today following a knife point robbery.
18 year old Daniel Barker of Anchor Rd, Barrow was sentenced to three years and eight months at Preston Crown Court today following an investigation into a knife point robbery at Buy Wrights Store on Steamer Street, Barrow on 14 July 2010. Barker entered the store, threatened a female member of staff with a kitchen knife and made off with £100 in cash.
Detective Inspector Geoff Huddleston of South Cumbria CID said:
“Robbery is a violent crime which is always treated as a priority by Cumbria Constabulary. This particular crime is an example of how seriously we deal with violent crime in Cumbria to ensure we catch offenders and keep our communities safe from harm.
“Barrow CID led a full and thorough investigation and thanks to their hard work and the valuable support we received from witnesses and the local community, we were able to identify and locate Barker and bring him to justice in court today.
“Barrow Island is a proud, tight-knit local community and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who assisted us during this investigation. It speaks volumes for Barrow Island and the community of Barrow as a whole, and shows how well police and residents can work together to tackle crime.
“The sentence Barker received today shows how serious this incident was and should act as a deterrent to anyone out there who is contemplating committing a crime. We have a strong record in South Cumbria of detecting crime. Don't do it - you will be caught.”
