Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour
Wigton
During April 2012 a total of 21 crimes were reported in the Wigton area. The following is a summary of those crimes reported:
On 5th April 2012 there was a theft of 100 litres of red diesel from plant vehicles at Longthwaite Road. There was also a theft of diesel reported on 12th April at the same location, a further 80 litres were stolen. Police are continuing enquiries to trace the offender(s)
Overnight between 9th & 10th April 2012 damage was caused to a front door of a house on High Street, Wigton.
In the afternoon of 10th April 2012 a female was arrested after being found drunk in charge of a child and for a public order offence. The female was arrested and charged with both offences.
At Park Road, Wigton, there was a theft of around 150 paving slabs from a rear garden. This occurred in the early evening of 10th April. A person has been arrested and assisting police with this offence.
Late at night on 13th April 2012, there was a racially aggravated public order incident at the Kebab shop on Wheatsheaf Lane, Wigton. Suspects have been arrested in relation to this offence.
Between 18th and 20th April2012, alloy wheels were stolen from an outbuilding at East View, Southend. The value of the wheels is estimated at £750.
At Ellen Close, Wigton, 25th April, persons stole the ‘No Ball Game’ sign which had only recently been erected by the housing association.
On 26th April 2012 offenders entered some containers on a building site and removed a generator and two power saws from Kirkland Fold, Wigton. Police are continuing enquiries to trace the offenders.
Overnight between 27th and 28th April 2012, offenders entered an insecure garage and stole a lawnmower at a house on William St, Wigton.
On 29th April 2012 damage was caused to a wing mirror of an unattended vehicle on East End, Wigton.
On 30th April 2012 a motor vehicle was scratched whilst parked on Stony banks, Wigton, this occurred between 1700 and 1800 hours.
There have been a total of 36 incidents of anti-social behaviour, 15 of these incidents are in relation to Ellen Close, Wigton, where young children and youths are playing football in the road to the annoyance of local residents. Police are working in conjunction with the local housing association to find an appropriate solution to this issue.
Rural
A burglary was reported on the evening of 4th April 2012 at a property at Brackenthwaite. Offenders have entered via a window and stolen antique crockery to the value of £260. Police are continuing their enquiries to trace the offender(s)
At Overgreen, a burglary occurred on 10th April 2012 where a vehicle was stolen and later recovered. Three persons have been arrested and are assisting Police with their enquiries.
On the 5th Aril 2012, at Caldbeck, police received a report of criminal damage to a padlock of a storage container. No property was stolen. Again in Caldbeck, on 15th April, a female was given a cannabis warning after being found in possession of cannabis whilst in a motor vehicle.
On the same date, a burglary occurred at the Oddfellows Pub, Caldbeck, Wigton, which was unoccupied at the time. Music equipment was stolen valued at £200. Police are continuing with enquiries and have a suspect for this offence.
On 29th April 2012, theft of a Royal Mail post box occurred in Caldbeck, in which the box was cut from the post with cutting equipment. Police are investigating this offence.

Consider fitting low energy dusk to dawn lighting, check regularly to ensure they work
Lock doors and windows before you go out
Remove keys from locks and keep out of reach of windows and doors
Ensure your house is secure, preventing someone entering when you are busy elsewhere in the house or garden
Ensure side gates and sheds are locked
Cancel newspapers; milk etc when you go on holiday
Look out for your neighbour's property
Make sure callers to your home are genuine, always ask for ID

Always lock your bike when not in use, even for a minute
When out always lock & secure your bike in a well-lit public area
Home or away, use a good quality D-lock, locking the wheels & frame to an immoveable point, even when stored in a garage or shed
Remember to keep your bike out of sight to passers by & locked when at home or on the back or top of a vehicle
Mark your bike frame with a property marking product, this will help police locate and return stolen property. Consider registering on www.bikeregister.com or www.immobilisse.com
Remember to insure your bike, take photographs of your bike and take note of all the serial numbers.
The Police are in receipt of complaints of dog fouling. It is an offence for a person in charge of a dog at the time it fouls not to clean up its faeces in a public place. Failure to clean up after a dog has fouled may result in a Fixed Penalty Fine of £75.00, payable within 14 days, or a fine of up to £1000.
