Your Policing Team

Upper Kent

The Upper Kent area includes the parishes of Burneside, Docker, Fawcett Forest, Grayrigg, Kentmere, Lambrigg, Longsleddale, New Hutton, Old Hutton & Holmscales, Skelsmergh & Scalthwaiterigg, Stainton, Staveley with Ings, Whinfell and Whitwell & Selside.

Following a review of how Community Patrol Officers are being deployed within the Kendal Neighbourhood Policing Team Area the number of 'points of contact' for each geographic area has been simplified to show just the Community Inspector, Community Sergeant and Police Community Support Officers. Community Patrol Officers will still be deployed to your area with the remaining 'points of contact' ensuring Officer deployment remains focused and community concerns are addressed effectively.

Other meetings that we attend:

The Upper Kent community officers are attending Age UK's (formally Age Concern) "Winter Warm" event. We will be available to discuss any community issues and give crime prevention information and advice.

We asked at your last SSC meeting what your local priorities were - You said

  1. Speeding traffic and anti social use of motor vehicle through rural villages

These are community priorities that local people in your area have agreed with the Neighbourhood Police. You can influence priorities by attending your next local meeting and informing your NPT what crimes need clearing up in your area.

We did - action taken or planned to tackle your priorities

  1. Speeding traffic and anti social use of motor vehicle through rural villages

High visibility patrols have continued to take place to target this behaviour, the Speed Indication Device has been deployed to educate motorists and warning letters have been sent out reminding those who are not driving as carefully as they could. Also units have deployed with speed radar guns and have issued tickets to motorists that they have caught exceeding the speed limits.

Crime & Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Report for November 2011

Although Crime and Antisocial Behaviour in Cumbria and the Upper Kent area remain low, please remember that prevention is still the best way of ensuring this does not change. So by making sure that doors and windows including those in outbuildings are kept locked, that tools & machinery are kept out of sight and remember to remove ignition keys from farm vehicles including tractors and quad bikes we can keep crime out of our communities.

Also as Christmas approaches we offer further advice
Don’t let thieves steal your Christmas
Police offer the following top tips to keep your house safe:
• Don’t leave gifts on show
• Keep gifts, cash & valuables safe & well hidden so they can’t be seen or reached by thieves
• Lock doors & windows before you go out, removing keys from locks & keep them out of reach
• Leave a light on in a room & draw curtains when you go out at night
• Always park in well lit areas or secure car parks if possible when out shopping
