Other meetings that we attend:

At 9:30 on Thursday 7th June we will be at The Coronation Hall in the foyer to listen to your views. We will also attend Ulverston Town Council Meetings and Parish Council meetings within the area. At all of these meetings there will be the opportunity to put forward Policing priorities for your areas. These will be taken to the Neighbourhood Forum meeting on your behalf.

We asked at your last SSC meeting what your local priorities were - You said

  1. The Policing Priority for the area has been set for tackling the rise in theft from Town Centre shops in Ulverston. Ulverston has always had low rates of this sort of crime. However over the last few months shoplifting has started to increase.
  2. .

These are community priorities that local people in your area have agreed with the Neighbourhood Police. You can influence priorities by attending your next local meeting and informing your NPT what crimes need clearing up in your area.

We did - action taken or planned to tackle your priorities

  1. The Policing Priority for the area has been set for tackling the rise in theft from Town Centre shops in Ulverston. Ulverston has always had low rates of this sort of crime. However over the last few months shoplifting has started to increase.

We will have High Visibility Patrols in the area of both Police Community Support officers on foot and Police officers. It is our intention to engage with local shop keeps and give advice on store security in an effort to make thefts more difficult. We are also working with traders to set up a new ‘Shop Watch’ scheme to help shops help themselves and your local Police.

Ulverston
Ulverston saw in the New Year with only a few calls for service. The town centre saw up to two hundred people gather around the cenotaph to celebrate. The incidents reported were criminal damage and minor assaults.

More officers were on the streets, on foot, patrolling local licensed premises to ensure patrons were aware of the increased police presence and landlords were taking responsibility of the customers in their establishments.

Of the reported assaults 75% occurred in licensed premises, or those involved had been in prior to the incident. Of these nearly 50% were detected. The others are pending results.

Cumbria Police are continuing their checks of licensed premises and the “Challenge 25” scheme. For further information contact Ulverston police on 101 and ask to speak to PC1501 Wheeler, the Ulverston & Lakes NPT Licensing Issues officer.

We continue to ask everyone to be vigilant and to contact the police if they believe a crime is in progress or they see suspicious behaviour. If anyone has any information in relation to these or any other incidents please contact Cumbria Police on 101 or call CrimeStoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.

Swarthmoor and Low Furness
There have been no reported crimes for the areas of Swarthmoor and Low Furness. There was a positive drug search in the area of Bardsea which saw a detection for possession of cannabis.

Cumbria Police would like to remind all residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to Cumbria Police on 101 or call CrimeStoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.

Swarthmoor Community Group are currently planning numerous events for the coming year - as well as the usual Coffee and Chat mornings and Tea and Games afternoons - all are welcome -  see local notice boards/village magazine for details . The refurbishment project of Swarthmoor Football and Community Club continues. New volunteers are always welcome.
