Other meetings that we attend:

We asked at your last SSC meeting what your local priorities were - You said

  1. Speeding in the Knowe Road area
  2. Litter around Knowe Road.

These are community priorities that local people in your area have agreed with the Neighbourhood Police. You can influence priorities by attending your next local meeting and informing your NPT what crimes need clearing up in your area.

We did - action taken or planned to tackle your priorities

  1. Speeding in the Knowe Road area

At our Safer stronger meeting on 10th May 2012 we spoke to 30 resident in the Etterby area. Although 23 people we spoke to did not identify any issues, some of you told us that cars were driving above the speed limit along Knowe Road. We will be conducting a speed check operation in the area in May/June targetting speeding drivers.
  2. Litter around Knowe Road.

Following the safer stronger community meeting on the 10th May 2012, you told us that litter around Knowe Road was a priority you would like us to look at. We will work with the council to address this and will raise it at the stanwix urban neighbourhood forum on Wednesday 23 May 2012 at 7.00 pm in Stanwix Primary School, Church Street.

PEDAL CYCLES BEING TARGETTED IN YOUR AREA.

A spate of recent burglaries have nealy all been opportunist where entry has been gained via an insecurity to a garage or shed to steal Pedal cycles. Regularly reviewing your security can prevent this. Please make sure your bikes are marked with a property marking pen. Please also consider the following actions:-

1.  Fit burglar alarms and good outside security lighting, check regularly to ensure they work.

2.  Lock all windows and doors before you go out.

3.  Remove keys from locks and keep out of reach of windows and doors.

4.  Ensure your house is secure, even when you are in the house or garden.

5.  Ensure side gates and sheds are locked.

6.  Keep valuables safe and well hidden

7.  Postcode your valuables with a UV pen

8.  Leave a light on and draw the curtains if you go out at night.

9.   Look out for your neighbours property

10. Consider joining a Neighbourhood watch scheme.

11.Cancel newspapers, milk etc when you go on holiday.

12. Make sure callers to your home are genuine, always ask for ID

BEWARE DOORSTEP CRIME

Cold calling, money saving offers, refunds – they really are too good to be true!

Police in North Cumbria are warning households to be on their guard against doorstep criminals such as bogus callers and rogue traders.

Police have received a number of complaints from concerned members of the community recently, complaining of people calling unannounced with promises of too-good-to-be-missed deals, and refunds on items such utility bills.

Unfortunately, these doorstep criminals tend to target the most vulnerable members of the community, so officers are urging people to look out for friends and neighbours, and pass on their simple security advice.

Community Officer PC 2009 Joanne FRENCH, from Carlisle’s Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Police advice is simple - if someone calls at your door with an offer that sounds too good to be true, then it almost certainly is. Never let strangers into your home unless they are from a reputable company, hold the correct identification, and have arrived on a pre-arranged visit approved by yourself. If in doubt keep them out!”
