The September Safer Stronger Community Meeting will take place between 4.00pm and 6.00pm Wednesday, 1st September 2010 at Silloth Fire Station. The August meeting has been delayed until the above date due to the bank holiday.

The October Safer Stronger Community Meeting will take place between 4.00pm and 6.00pm on Monday, 4th October 2010 at Silloth Fire Station.

  1. Inconsiderate Parking on Double Yellow Lines and on Disabled Access Points (Drop Kerbs) in Silloth

    The July Safer Stronger Community Meeting in Silloth with members of the public and partner agencies was held on Monday, 19th July 2010. Recently over thirty motorists have been given warnings over parking issues in Silloth.

    Other actions carried out include:

    1. Notices have been prepared for the Golf Hotel, Silloth and displayed by the hotel staff.
    2. Leaflets have been prepared and displayed and distributed at key points in town. These include the COOP Store, The Spar shop and Post Office.

    Further actions will include:

    1. Enforcement checks to continue by PC476 Robertson and PCS) 5232 Wiosenski.
    2. In addition to maintain road safety advice slips will be prepared for parents travelling to and from Silloth Primary School to ensure they park properly and observe a sensible speed.
  2. Tackle Underage Drinking in Silloth

    Actions taken todate as of Monday, 19th July 2010 include:

    1. Presentation has been given to all pupils in Year 9 from Cumbria Constabulary Community Safety Team to the local school.
    2. Recently a quantity of alcohol has been seized from young persons in the Silloth area by the police following checks in the area.

    Further actions will include the following:

    1. Trading Standards to conduct checks in Silloth to establish if any underage persons are are being supplied alcohol illegally.
    2. Further checks to be made in Silloth by the police to establish if persons in the locality are consumning alcohol on the street or other public place. This will include checks on the West Silloth beach area.
    3. Regular Patrols will enforce the on street drinking alcohol ban in Silloth.
    4. Media information that alcohol consumption will not be permitted on any public street during any forth coming public carnival or other public event in the Silloth area.
    5. Posters to be prepared and delivered to off licences and on licenses on the dangers of under age drinking. These will also be delivered to partner agencies in Silloth.

Silloth

The month of July 2010 saw 12 crimes committed in the Silloth Ward.  The following is a brief overview of the crimes reported to the police.

A trailer was stolen from Causewayhead, Silloth on 5th July 2010.  The trailer remains outstanding.  Diesel was stolen from five coaches at Silloth airfield on 5th July 2010.  Wooden fence posts were stolen from a property at Seaville, Abbeytown.  A male has been arrested at Silloth for breach of a non molestation order.  A youth was interviewed for damage to a motor vehicle in Silloth and compensation has been paid.  Two attempted burglaries were committed against caravans at the Seacote Caravan Park, Silloth.  On 22nd July 2010 two trailers were stolen from Solway Holiday Village and one further trailer was stolen from the Manor House Caravan Park at Allonby.  All of the trailers were recovered and a male will be prosecuted for the offences.  A common assault was committed against a person at the Stanwix Holiday centre which remains under investigation along with the theft of property from a caravan at Stanwix Caravan Park. 

July saw 13 anti-social behavioural incidents reported in the Silloth ward.  The incidents related to malicious calls, reports of youths fighting and youth disorder, loud music, a report of an assault in the Abbeytown area, albeit nothing was found and disputes between neighbours.

Holme

July 2010 saw a total of seven offences committed in the Holme ward.  These included the theft of a safe from a house at Abbeytown on Thursday, 8th July 2010, vehicles were also damaged at Abbeytown on Saturday 10th July 2010 and Sunday, 11th July 2010, and a person was assaulted also in Abbeytown on Thursday, 15th July 2010.  Batteries were stolen from a vehicle at the Thomas Armstrong Premises at New Cowper Quarry on Friday, 16th July 2010 and electric fence equipment was stolen from Beckfoot, Silloth on Saturday, 24th July 2010

The period saw a total of 15 anti-social behaviour incidents reported in the ward, which related to neighbour disputes, youth disorder, complaints  relating to quad bikes in the Allonby area and three calls from staff at the Wheatsheaf public house at Abbeytown relating to concerns of drunken youths following the village carnival on Saturday, 31st July 2010.

Marsh

July 2010 saw three offences committed in the ward.  These related to windows being smashed at premises in Anthorn, criminal damage being caused to vehicles also at Anthorn. Enquiries into these offences will continue.  Criminal damage to a tree was also recorded at Kirkbampton School on Wednesday, 21st July 2010.

Four incidents of anti-social behaviour were reported in the ward during July 2010.  These incidents concerned eggs being thrown at Mill Road, Glasson on Tuesday 6th July 2010, a dispute involving youths at Anthorn following stones being dislodged in a garden wall, also on Tuesday 6th July 2010, building foam being found in the exhaust of a motor vehicle at Anthorn on Saturday 12th July 2010 and noise from a motor cycle being ridden by youths at Anthorn on Monday, 12th July 2010. 

Between Tuesday, 1st June and Wednesday, 30th June 2010 there have been a total of 13 crimes committed in the Silloth, Marsh & Holme areas.  A brief outline of the offences is provided below: 

Burglary Patrols – Officers from North Allerdale Policing team are routinely carrying out burglary patrols in the Silloth and surrounding areas.  These will continue during August 2010 and the officers will be supported by other officers from the Road Policing Team and Dog Section.

Any persons with information relating to a criminal offence may speak with PC476 Robertson, PCSO5232 Wiosenski, any other police officer and alternatively may contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.  Persons contacting Crimestoppers may do so anonymously.

Opening Times

The Wigton Police Station, Station Road, is open 0900 until 1700 Monday-Friday

Wigton Police station has full wheelchair access to the front counter. Blue badge holders can park in the parking bays outside the station and there is a lift available to access the front counter. An induction loop system is in place for the hard of hearing.

There are no disabled toilet facilities at this police station.
