    The Silloth Safer Stronger Community Meeting has been held and there is currently no change in the Priorities perviously set.
    Work carried out in respect of the Priorities:

    • Residents are aware of the police action to combat this problem and further action to improve the current situation.
    • Leaflets are now at key points in Silloth. These include the COOP Store, The Spar shop and Silloth Post Office.
    • Speed checks will be carried out by PC476 Robertson on Causeway Head and Wigton Road, Silloth. A Request for assistance will also be made to the West West Cumbria Road Policing Unit for assistance with checks.

Silloth

During April 2012 there were five crimes reported to the Police. A summary of these are as follows:

On 1st April 2012 criminal damage was caused to a motor vehicle on the industrial estate in Silloth.

On 2nd April 2012 a motor vehicle was stolen from the Silloth area.

On 14th April 2012 criminal damage was caused to the motor vehicle in Silloth.

On 28th April 2012 anassault was committed in Silloth. Two youths under 18 years of age have been subject of the restorative justice procedure.

On 28th April 2012  an investigation into theft from premises in Silloth has been launched by the police and is continuing.

There were twelve  incidents of anti social behaviour reported in Silloth, which included adults causing nuisance, as well as youth related incidents.

Marsh

During April 2012 there were three crimes reported to the Police.

On 3rd April 2012 a person was assaulted in the Glendale area. The suspect was arrested and subsequently cautioned.

On 10th April 2012 a person was assaulted in Port Carlisle. This matter is being investigated by the police.

On 15th  April 2012 Criminal damage was caused to dwelling houses in the Kirkbride area. The person responsible was arrested and charged with offences.

There were three incidents of anti social behaviour reported to the Police.

Holme

During April 2012 , there was one crime reported to the Police.

On 5th April 2012 damage was caused to a garden fence in Abbeytown. The police are investigating this offence.

There were two incidents of anti social behaviour reported during April 2012.

TIPS TO KEEP YOUR HOUSE SAFE:

Consider fitting low energy dusk to dawn lighting, check regularly to ensure they work

Lock doors and windows before you go out

Remove keys from locks and keep out of reach of windows and doors

Ensure your house is secure, preventing someone entering when you are busy elsewhere in the house or garden

Ensure side gates and sheds are locked

Cancel newspapers; milk etc when you go on holiday

Look out for your neighbour's property

Make sure callers to your home are genuine, always ask for ID

If you see any vehicles (try to include vehicle registrations), persons (descriptions, clothing) or anything suspicious please contact the Police on the non emergency number 101 or 999 for emergencies. Homeowners should take precaution’s to ensure all buildings are properly secured and that any suspicious activity is reported to the police.  Age UK supply effective deterrents to help secure your home and sheds.  A range of products from shed alarms, magnetic door and window alarms to a complete home security kit are available and prices start from £3.00. These products can be seen and purchased from Age UK shops in Cockermouth, Workington, Wigton and Maryport.

Tips to Keep your Bike Safe & Secure

Always lock your bike when not in use, even for a minute

When out always lock & secure your bike in a well-lit public area

Home or away, use a good quality D-lock, locking the wheels & frame to an immoveable point, even when stored in a garage or shed

Remember to keep your bike out of sight to passers by & locked when at home or on the back or top of a vehicle

Mark your bike frame with a property marking product, this will help police locate and return stolen property. Consider registering on www.bikeregister.com or www.immobilisse.com

Remember to insure your bike, take photographs of your bike and take note of all the serial numbers.

The Police are in receipt of complaints of dog fouling.  It is an offence for a person in charge of a dog at the time it fouls not to clean up its faeces in a public place. Failure to clean up after a dog has fouled may result in a Fixed Penalty Fine of £75.00, payable within 14 days, or a fine of up to £1000.

Please give times, places anddescription of both the dog and the person as this will enable the Allerdale Enforcement Officers to utilise there time and resources to achieve the best results.

It is managed by the Cumbria Neighbourhood Watch Association and offers you and other members of communities across Cumbria the means to receive crime information from Cumbria Police.  You can select which information you wish to receive by managing your own settings, and it is completely FREE.  Anyone can join, you do not have to be a member of Neighbourhood Watch (NHW), or become a member of NHW to join.  Farm Watch, Church Watch and camping and caravan Watch are a small example of the schemes that you can register for. You can join as an individual or as a group. If you want to receive information but do not wish to be responsible for a larger group, you are still welcome to make use of this messaging system.

As well as Cumbria Constabulary the partners providing information are Cumbria County Council, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service and Cumbria Neighbourhood Watch Association.  If you do not have internet access, contact your local PCSO and they will aid in registering your details on the system.

Wigton Police station has full wheelchair access to the front counter. Blue badge holders can park in the parking bays outside the station and there is a lift available to access the front counter. An induction loop system is in place for the hard of hearing. There are no disabled toilet facilities at this police station.
