  1. Youth congregating in the cemetery grounds on Hensingham, causing anti-social behaviour by underage drinking, noise, litter and disturbance to residents of Holly Terrace, between the hours of 17-30 an 23:00hrs

These are community priorities that local people in your area have agreed with the Neighbourhood Police. You can influence priorities by attending your next local meeting and informing your NPT what crimes need clearing up in your area.

We did - action taken or planned to tackle your priorities

  1. Youth congregating in the cemetery grounds on Hensingham, causing anti-social behaviour by underage drinking, noise, litter and disturbance to residents of Holly Terrace, between the hours of 17-30 an 23:00hrs

Safer Stronger Community meetings are on the last Wednesday of every month.
This is a chance for you to vote on community problems.
So come alone and have your say.
For the purposes of these meetings the Whitehaven area has been split into 3 geographical areas, namely South Whitehaven, Central Whitehaven and North Copeland rural. A priority will be set for each area.

At Augusts SSC meeting at Whitehaven Civic Hall, Whitehaven on 25h August it was agreed that your priority is Youth congregating in the cemetery grounds on Hensingham, causing anti-social behaviour by underage drinking, noise, litter and disturbance to residents of Holly Terrace, between the hours of 17-30 an 23:00hrs
    • High Visibility foot patrol within the problem area.
    • Issuing fixed penalty notices to offenders.
    • Home visits to address the issues with parents of youths involved
    • Area to be revisited and further Ways survey to be carried out.

It is vital that resident keep all the agencies up to date with any issues or concerns they have with the Priority problem. You can do this by contacting any of the local officers on the number at the top of the newsletter.

Crime Update:

Sandwith

Figures show that there is a decrease in Anti-social behaviour incidents, compared to the same period in 2009.

The number of burglaries have also decreased, compared to the same period in 2009.

We are We continue to urge residents to ensure their property is locked away when not in use, that valuables are not left in unattended cars and that any suspicious activity is reported to the police. Your local officers are available to offer advice on all aspects of personal and home security and will carry out crime prevention surveys free of charge, offer property security marking and advice on neighbourhood watch schemes.
West Cumbria is renowned for its safe, close knit communities and in this respect we would ask that local people return to old values by looking out for their neighbours and report any suspicious activity or individuals to the police immediately on 0845 33 00 247. We are continuing to offer free crime prevention surveys to residents. If you are interested please contact us.
Once again, this months crime figures show  excellent reductions and your local community police officers will continue to work in partnership with other agencies such as the South Whitehaven neighbourhood management group. We will continue to work closely with youths from the area, providing positive activities for them to get involved with, which in return has taken them off the streets and in return reduced anti social behaviour.

Woodhouse and Kells

We have had a further reduction in Anti social behaviour. Anti Social behaviour incidents have decreased by 33% compared to the same period in 2009. We have been working closely with local youths, providing positive activities throughout the summer holidays as a deterrent against anti social behaviour.

The number of burglaries in the area have remained low. We continue to urge residents to remain vigilant and ensure properties are secure. Simple crime prevention such as closing windows and locking doors help to stop you from being a victim. We offer free crime prevention surveys. For more information please contact PC Phil Carter or PCSO Steven Brown.

We have also had a further reduction in vehicle crime. 25% decrease compared to the same period in 2009.

Speeding

Last months SSC priority was Speeding.
We worked closely with Kells Infants school and Copeland council. We looked at traffic calming and speed prevention measures.
We will still be doing regular speed checks in the area and issuing fixed penalty tickets to drivers who are over the speed limit.

As a result of our hard work we caught numerous drivers exceeding the 30mph speed limit and issued fixed penalty tickets.

Drugs

Drugs ruin lives and destroy communities.
Together we can proactively tackle these issues.
If you have any information on any person using / supplying illegal drugs please contact PC Phil Carter or PCSO Steven Brown. Alternatively you can contact crime stoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
All information received will remain confidential.

‘Off The Streets’ Initiative

Unfortunately due to the bad weather the activities day was cancelled. We are looking to re organise the event.

Neighbourhood Watch

Neighbourhood Watch is not just about reducing crime figures - it's about creating communities who care. It brings local people together and can make a real contribution to improving their life and environment
Neighbourhood Watch schemes can:
• Cut crime and the opportunities for crime.
• Help and reassure those who live in the area.
• Encourage neighbourliness and closer communities.
• Create better places in which to live, work and play.

There are other benefits to belonging to a Neighbourhood Watch scheme in this area too. You will have the opportunity to become familiar with crime prevention ideas. This will help keep your home and belongings safe and together.

Being a neighbourhood watch member also reduces the cost of your home insurance.
Contact either PCSO Steven Brown or PC Phil Carter for further information.

Crime Prevention Surveys

We continue to provide free crime prevention surveys along with free smartwater to local homes. The surveys are offered to any resident of Sandwith Ward. It takes a few minutes to carry out and could prevent you from becoming a victim of burglary. We are also providing households with free burglary packs which contain a number of information leaflets and vouchers for discount on certain home security products.
