We asked at your last SSC meeting what your local priorities were - You said

  1. Working to address the issues of
road safety in the Keswick Town Centre area.

These are community priorities that local people in your area have agreed with the Neighbourhood Police. You can influence priorities by attending your next local meeting and informing your NPT what crimes need clearing up in your area.

We did - action taken or planned to tackle your priorities

  1. Working to address the issues of
road safety in the Keswick Town Centre area.

The Safer Stronger Community Meeting did not take place in September due to poor attendance. The priority has now been changed to address the issues of general road safety around the Keswick Town Centre area. The priority has been set, based on the time of year and increased hours of darkness.
    We will:-
Conduct regular foot / vehicle patrols to address dangerous / obstructive / illegal parking.
Target both mobile phone use whilst driving and adult/child seatbelt offences.
Conduct road safty talks within local schools to educate children of all ages on road and cycle safety.
To apply a zero tolerance approach to those using pedal cycles during the hours of darkness without legal lighting.
To address issues of riding pedal cycles on footpaths and other associated offences.
Target drink drivers and actively appeal to member of the community to report any suspected offenders.
All these offences will be dealt with proactively by way of either fixed penalty notices / reporting for summons or arrest pending on their undividual circumstances.

Do you want to tell us what you think our Policing Priorities should be? Please come along to our Safer Stronger Community Meeting in The Council Offices, Main street Keswick at 1900pm on Wednesday 9th November 2010. At the meeting you will have the opportunity to share your views with other residents and vote on what our Policing Priority should be for the weeks ahead.

Crime and Anti Social Behaviour

Crime figures in July and August have reduced. In July 2009 there were 61 crimes committed in Keswick compared to  53 in July 2010. Anti Social Behaviour saw 45 incidents in July 2009 compared with 21 in July 2010.

We are showing a steady and continuous reduction in recorded Anti Social Behaviour and we aim to ensure this continues.

Specific locations and individuals are being targeted with our patrol strategy and incidents are being dealt with at an earlier stage to stop them escalating into anything more serious.

The majority of crime is committed by opportunists so if you take away the opportunity you take away the crime. I hope our previous campaign in relation to basic crime prevention is proving its worth here as we find that thefts of pedal cycles and also from garden sheds etc has reduced significantly.

Age Concern have shed alarms available for purchase at £7.00 each.

We will continue to tackle your community priorities to create safer, stronger communities.
