Crime and Anti Social Behaviour

In December there have been 38 incidents reported in the Keswick area. There have been 15 cases of Anti Social Behaviour, these included incidents involving boy racers causing nuisance in town centre car parks. There have also been Anti Sociial Behavior incidents relating to noisy neighbours and loud parties. In comparison to last years crime statistics Anti Social Behaviour has fallen by 29%. There have been 5 Burglaries reported; these all took place in commercial properties in Keswick area and police investigations are currently ongoing. There have been 9 incidents of criminal damage. This has included the criminal damage to a vehicle within Keswick area on the 20th December 2011 and also another incident involving a high value vehicle being damaged in a town centre car park on the 30th December 2011. Investigations are still ongoing, in regards to the damage caused. On the 24th of December a male was arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage, in a town centre bar. Also on the 24th December a male was arrested in Keswick town centre on suspicion of possessing controlled substances. In December there were 3 incidents of theft in Keswick area, including a report of theft of a jacket from a town centre store; Police investigations are still ongoing.
NOTE
Due to the rising levels of burglaries and other related theft occurring in commercial properties in the local area, Police are asking that Businesses ensure they proportionately increase their security, and that individuals implement all crime preventative measures in the work place, in order to discourage criminal opportunists.
Police in Allerdale Rural are planning to reduce crimes relating to burglary, lead thefts from buildings, agricultural fuel thefts and also scrap metal thefts. With increased numbers of vehicle checks in the whole area.
Homeowners should take precaution’s to ensure all buildings including out buildings are properly secured with good qaulity padlocks and that any suspicious activity is reported promptly to the police. Often offenders will use a van. All details of any vehicles/persons involved should be reported as soon as is practical on 101. Vehicles should also at all times be left secured and no items of value left on display at any time.
Wildlife Crime
Police are also seeking assistance from local residents especially those who live in the outlying areas of Keswick to please report incidents of wildlife crime; including incidents involving illegal poaching and badger bating.
