Safer Stronger Community (SSC) Meetings:
These meetings will be used to discuss and identify the community priorities for the Egremont Policing Team area. They will provide an opportunity for the community to vote on issues of direct concern and the police, with assistance from partnership groups, will then take action to address the identified issue. The August SSC Meeting will be held on the14th September at 12pm at the De Lucy Centre, Egremont.
Local police officers will be present at the following meetings, we will be happy to discuss any areas of concern you may have:
Gosforth Surgery in the village Library 1100-1200hrs on Monday 27th August 2010.
Seascale Surgery in the village Library 1500-1600hrs on Monday 27th August 2010.
Egremont Surgery:- At the Rugby League Club, Second Monday of the month from 7-8pm.

We asked at your last SSC meeting what your local priorities were - You said


  1. As a result of the SSC priority meeting held on the 12th August 2010 at Cleator Moor Police Station. The SSC priority location for this month will be the market square, Cleator Moor and Jacktrees playpark. Police will be targeting anti social behaviour, confiscating alcohol and dealing with bad behaviour appropriatley.
    2)This is the final update in relation to our previous SSC priority in Gosforth. Residents were concerned regarding the anti social behaviour that occurs in the square at evenings and weekends creating noise and upsetting local residents.

    Local officers have carried out high visibility routine patrols in the area of Gosforth Square, during evenings and weekends. Throughout June there have been no reports made to police regarding anti social behaviour and there are no incidents of note recorded by patrols.

    Improvements have been made in your area but please continue to report any issues to us.

Burglary & Robbery

There have been no robberies reported during the month of July throughout the Copeland Rural area.

There have been no burglaries reported during July in Gosforth, this is a 100% decrease compared to the same three months last year.

There has been a 75% decrease in burglaries in Egremont compared to the same three month period last year. 4 burglaries were reported during the month of June in Egremont. A burglary was reported on the 2nd July at the Park Head Inn, Egremont the offender has gained access to the property and removed a quantity of alcohol and cash from the premises, enquires are still on going at this time. Also a burglary was reported at the Physio first centre, Egremont on the 5th July, offenders have stolen a coffee jar containing a quantity of cash, enquires are still on going. A dwelling burglary was reported in Egremont, where offenders broke into a secure outhouse and stole two motorbikes, enquires are continuing. Also an offender broke into a hairdressers in Egremont and stole property from within, the offender was arrested and charged with burglary and theft. And an offender was charged with burglary with intent to steal after admitting breaking into a pub in Egremont.

There have been two burglaries in the Egremont rural areas. One where offenders entered St Begas church in Eskdale through the front door and broke into a locked cupboard causing damage, nothing was stolen, forensic enquires are continuing. And another where the offender broke into Dalegarth café, Boot and was disturbed by two key holders before being able to steal anything, enquires are continuing to trace this offender.

Vehicle Crime

There has been no vehicle crime in St Bees, Gosforth, or Beckermet during the month of July. There have been 3 reports of vehicle crime, 2 in the rural areas of Egremont and 1 in Egremont town. These being a theft from an unattended motor vehicle at Wastwater Lake, where the offender entered an insecure vehicle removed a handbag and contents. Theft of motor vehicle in Egremont, vehicle was stolen from home address and driven through a farmer’s gate and off road to a remote location where it was set alight, resulting in a total loss for the owner. Theft from unattended motor vehicle at a carpark in Seascale, vehicles drivers side window was wound down enabling offender to reach in and remove sat nav which was left out on display, enquires are continuing at this time.

Operation Baseball is an ongoing police operation targeted at tackling thefts from motor vehicles in rural areas. Frequent high visibility patrols are being carried out in these areas with posters and leaflets being distributed reminding visitors to the area that thieves are in operation and to place all belongings out of sight when left in a vehicle unattended.

Violence

There have been 5 reports of assault during July in Egremont. One assault reported where the offender was related to the victim and following an argument punched the victim in the face, charges were dropped and the offender was released.  Following a road rage incident the offender punched the victim causing no visible injuries, the suspect was identified and arrested and enquires are on going at this time. Another was a domestic incident where the offender punched his ex partner enquires on going at this time. Another domestic incident where offender has hit the victim with a metal object causing minor injuries, enquires are still on going. Another domestic incident was between a father and daughter following an argument, the victim was punched, and the offender was arrested and charged with the offence.

There have been no reports of violence in St Bees, Gosforth, or Seascale during July

Most of the assaults that are reported to the police are by persons known/related to the victim, this results in a large number of solved crimes and convictions of the offender/s.

If you want a record of the report you will be sent a number straight away, all you need do is keep it somewhere safe. Anti social behaviour

Anti social behaviour includes a wide range of different issues which can be youths causing a nuisance to vehicles being driven inconsiderately, malicious phone calls, neighbourhood disputes to verbal arguments and noise related incidents.

If you have long term concern regarding noise and anti social behaviour in the Cleator Moor area then contact the Environmental Health on 01946 598338 and/or your local housing provider may also be able to provide assistance. There were 66 incidents of anti social behaviour reported during the month of July in Egremont, 33 of these involved youths. The content of the 29 reports of youth anti social behaviour involved, under age drinking, congregating, noise, general disruptive behaviour in and around Egremont Castle grounds. Police are asking parents to speak to their children before they go out and play during the school holidays to advise them to stay away from school grounds and derelict buildings and to be considerate to other members of the public. There have been 28 reports of anti social behaviour in the rural villages around Egremont, a large number of these reports are on going neighbourly disputes, only a couple are reports of youths.

There has been an 80% increase in anti social behaviour in Egremont compared to the same three month period last year.

In all cases where possible, anti social behaviour forms have been submitted and prevent and deter reports (which is the next stage on from the initial forms) are also being submitted for the worst repeat youths.

Other issues

On the 17th July 2010 a drugs warrant was executed at an address in Egremont a quantity of class b and class c drugs were seized from the address. Enquires are still on going at this time.

BeckFest is to be held on Saturday 14th August 2010 in the afternoon at the White Mare, Beckermet. This is a local rock festival which is held each year and features numerous bands. There won’t be any parking allowed in the village, visitors are asked to park at Yottenfews near Sellafield and use the free park and ride facilities set up there.

Gosforth agricultural show is being held behind the West Lakes hotel, Gosforth on Saturday 21st August 2010. There will be show jumping, horse shows, cattle, sheep, demonstrations, cake and local produce competitions. A good day out for all the family!!

Egremont Police station has full wheelchair access to the front counter. Blue badge holders can park in the disabled bay to the rear of the station where there is level access to the main entrance. An induction loop system is in place for the hard of hearing.

There are no disabled toilet facilities at this police station.

Opening Times

The Egremont Police Station, Main street, is open 0900 - 1700hrs Monday-Friday. Apart from on Wednesdays when it is open from 1330 - 1700hrs only. ***THE FRONT COUNTER FACILITY WILL BE CLOSED FROM 27TH AUGUST THROUGH TO 6TH SEPTEMBER INCLUSIVE*** Please ring 0845 33 00 247 if you have any queries outwith these times.
