Other meetings that we attend:

We asked at your last SSC meeting what your local priorities were - You said

  1. Speeding Hartley Ave area
  2. Youth Anti Social Behaviour

These are community priorities that local people in your area have agreed with the Neighbourhood Police. You can influence priorities by attending your next local meeting and informing your NPT what crimes need clearing up in your area.

We did - action taken or planned to tackle your priorities

  1. Speeding Hartley Ave area

At our Safer Stronger community meeting on Tuesday 3rd April 2012 we spoke to 30 people on Dene Crescent. Although the majority of people raised no issues it was brought to our attention that cars are speeding on roads around Hartley Ave and HGV vehciles over 7.5 tonnes are using the road when they shouldn't. We have been conducting a speeding operation in the area throughout March and April and will include Hartley Ave in this.
  2. Youth Anti Social Behaviour

You brought to our attention the fact gangs of youths were hanging around causing Anti social behavior.
We currently have extra staff patrolling the area to try and Identify the youths. We also have meetings arranged with the local council to try and arrange provisions for the youths in the area for somewhere for them to meet without causing any issues to residents. If you have any information about the youths involved or any suggestions on where to put a youth shelter/cage please contact Sgt 1615 Millburn on 101

GARAGES AND SHEDS ARE BEING TARGETTED IN YOUR AREA

A spate of recent burglaries have nealy all been opportunist where entry has been gained via an insecurity to a garage or shed. Regularly reviewing your security can prevent this. Please consider the following actions:-

1.  Fit burglar alarms and good outside security lighting, check regularly to ensure they work.

2.  Lock all windows and doors before you go out.

3.  Remove keys from locks and keep out of reach of windows and doors.

4.  Ensure your house is secure, even when you are in the house or garden.

5.  Ensure side gates and sheds are locked.

6.  Keep valuables safe and well hidden

7.  Postcode your valuables with a UV pen

8.  Leave a light on and draw the curtains if you go out at night.

9.   Look out for your neighbours property

10. Consider joining a Neighbourhood watch scheme.

11.Cancel newspapers, milk etc when you go on holiday.

12. Make sure callers to your home are genuine, always ask for ID

BEWARE DOORSTEP CRIME

Cold calling, money saving offers, refunds – they really are too good to be true!

Police in North Cumbria are warning households to be on their guard against doorstep criminals such as bogus callers and rogue traders.

Police have received a number of complaints from concerned members of the community recently, complaining of people calling unannounced with promises of too-good-to-be-missed deals, and refunds on items such utility bills.

Unfortunately, these doorstep criminals tend to target the most vulnerable members of the community, so officers are urging people to look out for friends and neighbours, and pass on their simple security advice.

Community Officer PC 2009 Joanne FRENCH, from Carlisle’s Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Police advice is simple - if someone calls at your door with an offer that sounds too good to be true, then it almost certainly is. Never let strangers into your home unless they are from a reputable company, hold the correct identification, and have arrived on a pre-arranged visit approved by yourself. If in doubt keep them out!”
