Other meetings that we attend:

We asked at your last SSC meeting what your local priorities were - You said

  1. ASB Ormsgill Estate Area – Bordered by Ormsgill Lane, Park Road, Millstone Avenue, Middle Field, Barnfiled Lane.
Youth related Anti-Social Behaviour, on street drinking on Middle Field.

These are community priorities that local people in your area have agreed with the Neighbourhood Police. You can influence priorities by attending your next local meeting and informing your NPT what crimes need clearing up in your area.

We did - action taken or planned to tackle your priorities

  1. ASB Ormsgill Estate Area – Bordered by Ormsgill Lane, Park Road, Millstone Avenue, Middle Field, Barnfiled Lane.
Youth related Anti-Social Behaviour, on street drinking on Middle Field.

December- We continued to patrol the priority area and there was a slight increase in reported incidents up from 18 to 25.

January- The long process of designating part of the estate as a no on street drinking zone continues and is still at the consultation phase. We hope that the legislation will be ready for the warmer summer months. We will continue to give the highlighted area priority status including a 60 minute maximum response time for ASB incidents.

Burglary- There were 5 reported incidents of burglary in December up from three in November. A local male was arrested after a distraction burgalry on Hawcoat and two males were arrested after gas pipes were stolen from a house on Ainslie Street. Copper piping was also stolen from an unoccupied flat on Greenhill Close. A boiler was stolen from a newly constructed house on Bradford Street.

Please remain vigilant and do not hestitate to report anything suspicious.

Please remember to keep all valuables, doors and windows safe and secure. Lock it or Lose it!

Criminal Damage- There were a total of 21 incidents of damage across the three wards in November. In December this fell slightly to 16. Just one address on Newport Street accounted for 3 incidents and resulted the arrest of a male. Other areas targetted included Angle Meadow Lane (arrest made) Green Hill Close and High Lea Walk.

Anti-social Behaviour - In November there were 15 incidents on Parkside, 5 on Hawcoat and 18 on Ormsgill. In December we had 21 on Parkside, 9 on Hawcoat and 25 on Ormsgill. Across all three wards only 18 reported incidents involved 10-17 year olds and there were no areas which stood out.

If you are experiencing any problems please get in touch.

Violent Crime. The number of reported assaults in December was up on previous months with  8 being reported. If we consider this includes the Christmas period when violent crime especially domestic related tends to rise then the figures are encouraging. Once again a number of these incidents involved known offenders and arrests were made.

Overall crime in Barrow remains low and we are improving already on our figures for last year.
