Other meetings that we attend:

Safer Stronger Community Meeting

We asked at your last SSC meeting what your local priorities were - You said

  1. ASB in the evenings in areas of - Raglan Court, Church Street, Bath Street, and Egerton Court. This ASB is mainly youth related but also includes anti social use of mopeds and motor cycles.

These are community priorities that local people in your area have agreed with the Neighbourhood Police. You can influence priorities by attending your next local meeting and informing your NPT what crimes need clearing up in your area.

We did - action taken or planned to tackle your priorities

  1. ASB in the evenings in areas of - Raglan Court, Church Street, Bath Street, and Egerton Court. This ASB is mainly youth related but also includes anti social use of mopeds and motor cycles.

We continue to provide a high visibility police presence in these areas with a view to targetting those responsible for anti social behaviour.
We are working with partner agencies to reduce anti social behaviour in these areas.
We continue to encourage the community to report incidents of anti social behaviour.
On Barrow Island we have seen complaints of anti social behaviour drop from 256 to 145 111 incidents down on the same period last year.
In the Central wards, we have seen a reduction of 256 calls for service from 1,064 to 808.
On Hindpool, the reduction is by 108 from 728 to 620.

BURGLARIES

Despite overall levels of burglary being low, some are still occuring in Central ward.In December, there were four reported dwelling burglaries in this policing area. They occured on Devonshire Buildings, Lords Street, Rawlinson Street and at Ramsden Dock Road, were Darren Ross, a 42 Barrow Male was arrested and charged.   we have also carried out overt / covert patrols to combat this issue and our message remains the same, we urge all residents to secure doors and windows, also to remove valuables from vehicles to prevent opportunist crimes. Remember Lock it or Lose it,

Since the start of April 2011, there have been 90 offences of burglary in the Barrow Borough area, which is a reduction of 21 on the same period last year!

BURGLARY REMAINS VERY LOW IN BARROW, IT CAN BE REDUCED FURTHER THROUGH ADHERING TO THE LOCK IT OR LOSE IT PRINCIPLES.

DRUGS

We have continued to target premises were drug dealing is suspected.

Warrants were carried out in Rustling Court were one male was arrested, and Egerton Court were another male was arrested.

During the month of December members of the BarrowBorough NPT carried out drugs warrants targetting those people suspected of supplying drugs within the Night time economy. Of the five warrants executed, six people were arrested, a substantial amount of of drugs recovered. We will be continuing to target those suspected of supplying controlled drugs that are linked to violence within the night time economy.

Drug misuse can lead to lives being destroyed and the link between drugs and crime is well known.

We continue to proactively tackle drug related activity, through warrants, stop searches and use of a passive drugs dog.

We encourage people to contact us in confidence with any information that involved the supply and misuse of drugs.

In other parts of the Borough, we have seen significant arrests for drug offences.

VIOLENT CRIME

Violent crime and injury assault crimes within the Barrow Borough NPT are our main priority. The festive period has seen a predicted rise in alcohol fuelled violence and disorder. The Barrow Borough Community team are heavily involved in policing the pubs and clubs of Barrows town centre. A significant amount of work has  been carried out to reduce the levels of violence in the town centre. Despite what peoples perceptions are, Barrow at night IS NOT "like the Gaza Strip" or a "war zone". The reality is that 2-3,000 people will visit the pubs and clubs in the Barrow Town Centre, and Will have a great night out. On an average weekend, 10 or 12 individuals will end up being arrested for offences of violence but mainly these are disorder related....For the vast majority of people who visit Barrow at night, they rarely see incidents of violence and have a great time.

We are able to have police officers at the doors of all the late night clubs, from comments made by revellers, it is clear that many people feel safer when they see police officers policing the pubs and clubs.

Alcohol and drugs is a significant factor in violent crime.

There has been a slight rise in Assaults with minor injury, 414 compared to 403, a small increase of 11. Assaults with serious injury have dropped from 33 to 30, a reduction of 3. This against a background of 3 successive years of healthy reductions. We are committed to reducing violent crime, and work will continue in this area.

ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

Anti social behaviour has decreased in the area compared to the same period last year.  Should you be affected by any type of anti social behaviour please contact us.  This type of behaviour will not be tolerated and we work closely with other partnerships in achieving solutions to the problem.

At the recent Safer stronger community meeting, the attendees told us that there were still areas of anti social behaviour in the Barrow Island, Central and Hindpool wards.

We have agreed that these areas should be prioritised and will be targetting these areas to ensure an improved quality of life for the residents of these areas.

We continue to work with trading standards to target under age drinking, and along with several partners we have carried out operations aimed at removing young people engaged in harmful activitiess such as street drinking, to a safe environment were they can be educated by partners.

THEFTS OF SCRAP METAL

There has been a rise in reported incidents of scrap metal thefts. These often occur in premises that are having work done on them.

We would encourage the public to ring the police if they see suspicious activity near premises containing scrap materials.

Officers from the community teams carry out a number of operations in relation to scrap metal and associated offences along with our partners in trading standards, Environmental agency and local Authority.
