The Recruitment Process

Assessment Centre

Before this next stage of tests you will receive plenty of information and you will find examples of the type of test you will face on our website at www.policecouldyou.co.uk. Typically these include written tests, ability tests, interactive role-play exercises and an interview. You will be evaluated by trained assessors. If you are successful at this stage, you will be invited for a medical examination and a fitness test. You will find details about the fitness test and a suggested training programme at the same website.

Appointment is subject to satisfactory reference checks and security vetting.

Following the Assessment Centre you will receive a feedback report detailing how you performed in all of the exercises and tests, together with your overall result.

If you are successful at this stage, you will be invited for a medical and fitness test at a later date.

Background Checks

The following references / checks will be taken up and must be satisfactorily completed before candidates can be offered an appointment as a constable.

  • Character References
  • Past and present employers
  • DVLA
  • Criminal Records Department (in Cumbria and other Forces where candidates have resided) 

Our Current Recruitment Position

Cumbria Constabulary has had to slow down recruitment and are not, at this time, actively recruiting for new Police Officers.  However, should this change then information will be updated accordingly.
