Head of Uniform Operational Support - Superintendent Gary Slater

Responsible for the areas of uniform operations including Civil Contingency and Events Planning, Tactical Support Group, Force Communications Centre, Roads Policing Unit, Dogs Section, Firearms Training and Operations, and overview with others of the Cumbria Safety Camera Partnership. 

Gary was born in County Durham and moved to South West Africa where he grew up. On leaving school he studied Psychology at the University of Wales. He joined Cumbria Constabulary in Dec 1989 starting his career in West Cumbria and has enjoyed a number of uniformed roles across West Cumbria.

He was promoted Chief Inspector Operations in North Cumbria in 2006 following which he undertook a 6 month exchange secondment with the Civil Nuclear Constabulary as North BCU Commander. He was promoted to Superintendent Operations for West Cumbria in 2008 and has recently undertaken a forcewide review of the constabulary’s uniform services.

Gary took up his post as Head of Uniform Operational Support in Jan 2010.

He is married with three children and lives in West Cumbria.
