Jerry joined Cumbria Constabulary in June 2009 as Assistant Chief Constable following his transfer from Lancashire Constabulary. He currently carries the Territorial Policing portfolio, overseeing the geographic command units, partnership activities and criminal justice and is also the lead for Neighbourhood Policing.
He joined the Police Service in 1985 and initially worked in various roles across the policing divisions of Lancashire, as well as at Headquarters, undertaking both Uniform and CID duties.
In 1999, he became Detective Chief Inspector at Pennine Division before being promoted to Superintendent Operations Manager at Lancaster. In February 2004, he returned to Pennine as Divisional Commander with responsibility for policing across Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale.
In 2005, he took up the Chair of Burnley’s Community Safety Partnership. He also became Chair of Lancashire Community Safety Partnership Chair’s forum.
In February 2006, he undertook a short secondment to the Police Service of Northern Ireland, taking command of a policing division in Belfast.
Between July 2007 and May 2008 he performed the role of Temporary ACC (Specialist Operations) with responsibility for counter terrorism, serious and organised crime and protecting vulnerable people as well as uniform operations support.
In August 2008 Jerry assumed lead responsibility for the Constabulary’s organisational support programme which is seeking to reshape the Force’s support structures and processes to better deliver citizen focused policing.
In 1999, he was awarded a Cropwood Fellowship by the Institute of Criminology at Cambridge and a Master of Arts in Criminology from Keele University.
