Biography -  

Director of Professional Standards - Detective Superintendent Paul Smith

Responsible for the areas of Complaints and Misconduct Investigation, Information Security and Data Protection, Information Compliance and Vetting.

Paul joined Cumbria Constabulary as a Police Cadet in 1981 and was appointed Constable in 1983.

In 1987 he commenced a career with the CID which saw him work as Detective Constable, Sergeant and Inspector across West Cumbria during which time he was part of many of the major investigations conducted across the area.

In February 2007 he was promoted to Carlisle to lead the Criminal Investigation Department as Detective Chief Inspector, prior to further promotion to Superintendent in North Cumbria in December 2008.

In July 2010 he took up his present position as Director of Professional Standards responsible for the management of public complaints, misconduct investigations, anti-corruption, information security, information compliance, vetting and data protection.
